Transmission Capability and Utilization
Purpose
Session 1: The purpose of this session is to provide stakeholders with an introduction to the assumptions and methodologies used in the development of the AESO’s transmission capability mapping tool as well as its vision and intended use. This will include a walk-through of the map, a facilitated Q&A to respond to stakeholder questions and clarifications, and details around supporting user experience. The second part of the session will provide stakeholders with an introduction to transmission utilization, including the fundamentals of transmission planning for contingencies, and a preliminary discussion on appropriate utilization metrics to use for transmission utilization.
Session 2: The purpose of this session is to build on the information provided to stakeholders at the Transmission Capability and Utilization session on Nov. 23, 2021. The session will review the assumptions and methodologies used in the development of the AESO’s transmission capability mapping tool as well as its vision, intended use and timing of updates. This will include a walk-through of the map, a facilitated Q&A to respond to stakeholder questions, and details around supporting user experience. The session will also provide stakeholders with an overview of additional supports the AESO will be implementing related to System Access Service Request (SASR) submissions.
Scope
Session 2 will primarily focus on the assumptions and methodology used in the development of the map and is not intended as an opportunity to discuss AESO’s current business practices, approaches, or processes.

The following topics are out-of-scope and will not be discussed as part of the Transmission Capability Assessment information session:
- Project-specific questions
- Changes to the regulatory framework (e.g., TReg, TPL standards)
- 2018 GTA Decision and Corresponding Compliance Filing Items
- Existing System and Connection projects
