Purpose

The AESO hosted a virtual Stakeholder session on February 28, 2024, to discuss new connection requirements for Inverter-Based Resources (IBRs.)

Background

The AESO’s Reliability Requirements Roadmap identified system strength as a key risk to reliability. During the Grid Reliability session in November 2023, the AESO discussed operational experiences that have reinforced the need for action on reliability issues caused by low system strength. One of the ways the AESO intends to improve reliability in relation to system strength is by introducing new connection requirements for IBRs.

This session informed IBR owners of the new connection requirements, and project owners on how to engage with the AESO regarding specific needs for their projects.
